Car Accident/Whiplash

Car Accidents and Chiropractors
If you have been in a car accident, it is important to get checked out. If you are in a serious car accident, care should be taken to make sure there is no internal bleeding or brain injury. Likewise, it is also important to get your spine and nervous system checked out! The spine can be negatively affected at speeds of less than 8 mph. Some of the effects of whiplash happen instantly, some a week after the accident, and some don’t show up until much later. We believe that everyone in a car accident should be checked out by a chiropractor–including children!

Whiplash and Chiropractic
3 million Americans report whiplash injuries from motor vehicle collisions each year. Of these, roughly half will suffer long-term pain or symptoms and 10% will become disabled each year. Chiropractic has been shown to be very effective at treating whiplash as chiropractors work on restoring the spine to its natural curve and helping your body to resume its previous health. Many times discs also become injured in a car accident–we have treatment options that lessen pain and inflammation such as our cold laser, non-surgical spinal decompression treatments, and quality chiropractic care.

Sometimes, people don’t get treated immediately after they were in a car wreck. Fortunately, chiropractic is proven effective in the care of chronic whiplash pain (pain that has been going on for 3 months–years). In fact, researchers have shown that 93% of chronic whiplash patients improved following chiropractic care! It’s never too late to visit.

Car Accidents and Whiplash
Whiplash from a car accident is a very serious condition. Even when at low speeds or with minimal damage to your vehicle, your body and spine can substantiate damage that may have long-term effects. Sometimes these symptoms do not show up immediately. Please give us a call if you are suffering any back and neck pain or stiffness and discomfort after an auto accident for a free consultation.

What are some symptoms of Whiplash?
Common signs and symptoms of whiplash include neck pain and/or stiffness, headache, nausea, difficulty concentrating, shoulder pain, upper back pain, soreness between the shoulders, low back pain, arm pain and/or numbness, tingling, jaw pain, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), chest pain, difficulty swallowing, visual disturbance, changes in vision, auditory disturbance, balance disorders, insomnia (difficulty sleeping), dizziness, swelling, bruising, soreness, tenderness, tightness, lightheadedness, wrist pain/numbness, sciatica (leg pain), fatigue, brain injury, hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid disorder, cervical sympathetic disorder, menstrual disorder, occipital neuralgia, sore throat, loss of voice, weakness, feeling depressed, fibromyalgia, and posttraumatic stress disorder (anxiety, nervousness).

Will my Insurance cover my Chiropractic Care?
Auto injuries are covered by PIP (Personal Injury Protection). This is required coverage on all auto insurance policies in Missouri and Kansas. A claim to receive treatment after an auto accident does not (and can not) affect your auto insurance premiums. We can find out in our office what coverage you have.
