Sciatica

What is Sciatica?

The sciatic nerves exit the spine in the low back. They are the largest and longest nerves in the body and runs down the back of each leg. When these nerves become irritated or inflamed, we refer to this as sciatica or sciatic nerve pain. Most commonly, the cause of this irritation is a herniated disc, also known as a slipped disc.

Symptoms of Sciatic Nerve Pain
pain that starts in the low back or buttock region and radiates down the back of your leg generally a searing pain or sharp pain only one leg is affected is made better by lying down or walking around–worse when sitting or standing still occasionally numbness, tingling or pressure is also felt down the leg.

Relief from Sciatica
Medical treatment can involve medications and surgery which is not effective in every case and includes side effects. With chiropractic care, the treatments or adjustments will be targeted to the specific part of your spine dealing with any irritation of the nerve or disc space. At our office, we also have other modalities that can be highly effective, including non-surgical spinal decompression which aims to increase the space between the spinal joints, relieving pressure on the nerve, and cold laser, which decreases inflammation and pain.
